The Cabinet Wilderness is composed of prominent peaks and surrounding timbered valleys and ridges. Snow-clad mountains and glacial lakes, cold streams and cascading waterfalls. A wide variety of animals live there including wolverine, deer, elk, moose, grizzly and black bear, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. These mountains are also home to Montana's famous 'Purple Gold' Huckleberry bushes.
This goshawk is a common bird of prey that lives in these mountains. Their food source includes mice and other small rodents. This bird is mostly nocturnal and is rarely seen during the day. Other birds that nest in these mountains are Osprey, Bald and Golden eagles.

This picture of Buck lake and the mountains behind was taken by an intrepid group of backpackers. They climbed down the rock talus seen in the background. The only other route to this lake is a trail heading opposite from the way they came.
